One of the downsides of security threats being in the news is that those people who don’t want to perform any real analysis of problems in their computing environment can simply say, "oh, you must have such and such" as in – "your system is really slow, you must have spyware" or "my wi-fi network is really slow, a hacker must be using my bandwidth."
Well, I have really big news – it is still pretty likely that all the old, routine, boring problems of computers and networks are actually breaking your systems, and not the latest threat. In any event, please perform a full analysis before you pronounce something "compromised".
It’s a copout. Really.
(Note to all: this does not mean that you haven’t been compromised – it just means there is no evidence to tell either way.)
