A Dose of Truth

I am sitting here watching American Idol – you know, the first episode where they have all the really bad singers. I have always been a bit uncomfortable with this episode – it always seemed disrespectful and rude to laugh at all of these people whose dreams are being crushed on camera.

But now, there is a more important need here – the need for a dose of truth to the delusional. Anyway, by now anyone should know that they are subject to ridicule.

Seriously, this is a great study in how people can fool themselves into believing they have much more talent than they do. I suspect that there is something much deeper here – like how we reinforce these delusions through our interest in "not rocking the boat" or by not wanting to hurt people’s feelings.

Talk about a serious crash and burn that awaits those who aren’t treated honestly in their lives. We’re all at fault, in little ways.
