What’s the Deal with all these “Slide Shows”?

Why have all the trade news websites turned to slide shows to present information? Is it the "dumbing down" of technical informaton? Or simply a way to generate more clicks and (presumably) more advertiser dollars?

I don’t get it, and I don’t like ‘em much. (And I am saying this as I find out that the 5 Immutable Laws of Virtualization Security are presented in a slideshow on Baseline Magazine’s site.)

I attribute it to widespread ADD epidemic and overall shortening of attention spans and drop in an ability to absorb information.

Test it on yourself: if you have limited time, what would you rather read – a 30 slide PPT deck or, say, 10 page document?
