Here’s a good one:
"I am angry and embarrassed by the computer security system lapses that were undetected before my time as leader of the university," Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis said in the statement.
Can you picture the group of administrators scurrying about reading their thesauruses (thesaurii?) trying to figure out which words to use to spin this the right way? So they come up with the sentence above – the proper mix of outrage and distance.
So, how long do you think Roderick J. McDavis has been "leader of the university"? Must have been recent, right? Wrong. According to this announcement, he took over on July 1, 2004.
Two years ago. And he’s placing blame on his predecessor and implying that everything was fine during his "leadership". For two years.
Well, thank goodness they are going to deploy state of the art security measures. Know what they are going to do? Let’s see:
As part of its efforts, the university will also deploy real-time and scheduled measures for protecting its systems against viruses on every Windows-based server.
Catch that? Their solution to the problem is to install… antivirus software. You go, Ohio U.!!!
This is the Bart Simpson defense. “It was that way when I got here.”
