To Sue is Human, To Err, Denied

I have a new opinion piece about software liability up on Computerworld. I also have a confession: I don’t really want bugfinding to be made illegal, though I do think that it would significantly reduce risk. Just wanted to ruffle a few feathers ;-) . I would rather the really smart "white hats" redirect their energies to more useful purposes.

Update: Howard Schmidt is supposed to have a commentary on CNET coming out soon (today?) to clarify his position. I suspected that the article where he was quoted using the word "liable" was wrong, and tried to clarify in my commentary that there was a followup that qualified his statement to mean "accountable" but it may not have been clear to everyone. Having developers be accountable for their work is certainly reasonable, as it is reasonable to have any worker accountable for what they do.
