The current Santy worm spreads via sites using phbBB, a bulletin board program. Kaspersky Labs says it is spreading in "epidemic" proportions. Hmmm, I may be missing something, but if phpBB can spread like an epidemic, we are really up a creek and worrying about a Microsoft monoculture isn’t going to help anyone.

This worm is interesting: spreads via Google search (google has since shut it down); infects websites and defaces them.

Named Santy because, well because somebody couldn’t read (conjecture on my part) and mistook "Sanity" for "Santy" given the season and the rush to find a holiday worm. Just like the Beagle/Bagle silliness, our profession is stuck once again with a name intended to be meaningful actually meaning something incorrect.
